- I did not catch this a year ago, but FILM CRIT HULK wrote an excellent and detailed dissection of why Hollywood films are ill-served by the rote use the Campbellian hero’s journey as a structure for a script. He has a related article limning the related failures of the three-act structure. WARNING: if you have not encountered FILM CRIT HULK’s writings before (as I had not), be prepared to spend several hours catching up on what he has to say about film.
- Last week over at Something Positive Monette took a pitch meeting for a very bad sit-com involving witches.
- It was not something I grew up with, but Slate has put up a good series of three articles looking at Free to Be You and Me, a 1972 children’s album examining gender roles.
